Support the online petition: “Protect passenger safety”

July 16, 2014

On May 6 2013, Transport Canada granted an exemption to WestJet to change the current regulation of 1 flight attendant for every 40 passengers to a new ratio of 1 flight attendant for every 50 passenger seats.

On October 28 2013, Transport Canada granted a similar exemption to Sunwing.

Air Canada and Air Transat also requested an exemption. Transport Canada is now proposing to change the regulation to allow all Canadian airlines to switch to 1 in 50 ratio.

The federal government of Canada claims the change will make Canada’s airlines more competitive with international carriers.

At what cost? Ultimately, Transport Canada’s decision puts profits ahead of passenger safety.

Tell Transport Canada that this is not acceptable.
