ITF to work more closely with federation representing air traffic services workers

The International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the International Federation of Aeronautical Information Management Associations (IFAIMA) to represent the interests of air traffic services workers around the world.
On Monday 14 January, ITF general secretary Stephen Cotton and IFAIMA president Fernando Henriques Lopes signed the memorandum to bring the work of the two federations closer together. The document recognises the complementary relationship between ITF’s specialism in social and trade union issues and IFAIMA’s specialism in technical and professional matters.
ITF and IFAIMA have agreed to coordinate their work on issues of mutual concern, especially when representing aviation workers at the International Civil Aviation Organisation, the International Labour Organisation and other multilateral institutions.
Earlier this week, ITF civil aviation secretary Gabriel Mocho Rodriguez also wrote to unions representing air traffic controllers and air traffic services staff affected by the ongoing US government shutdown. ITF fully supports the unions’ demand that workers continue to be paid for their essential work at this difficult time.
ITF affiliates aviation unions around the globe, including those representing workers in air traffic control and wider air traffic services, while IFAIMA’s members span 81 countries across all world regions. Both federations look forward to a close and productive working relationship over the coming years.
