ITF/ETF support FNV Cabine challenge to KLM/Royal Dutch Airlines

December 14, 2017

The ITF/ETF affiliated FNV Cabine union has called a 24-hour strike for 8 January 2018 over a long-running deadlock with KLM/Royal Dutch Airlines over the cutting of cabin crew numbers on some long-haul flights.

The union has already carried out short stoppages and work-to-rule action against the measure, which is due to reduce the number of cabin crew in economy cabins on some long-haul flights. FNV Cabine members in September rejected a new proposed labour deal, which they see as a clear attempt to start a new race to the bottom.

The ITF/ETF stand ready to support their Dutch affiliate. On 13 December, civil aviation section secretary Gabriel Mocho sent a letter of solidarity to FNV Cabine stating that the section was particularly disappointed that KLM has revealed such a lack of commitment regarding its negotiations with FNV Cabine after such a protracted period of time.

He added: “As aviation companies become increasingly global, it is critical for aviation unions and their members to become global in their efforts to protect the interests of working people. Therefore, we will ensure our aviation affiliates worldwide become aware of this development.”

At the ETF civil aviation section meeting on 14 December in Florence, François Ballestero, ETF political secretary added: “FNV Cabine proposes a fundamental change that will help KLM and the workers to be stronger in the face of unfair competition. It will be a win-win situation if the company takes the offer. At the same time the cabin crew’s working conditions and their work life balance will improve. Please do it together!”

It looks like you’ve misspelled the word “Varios” on your website. I thought you would like to know :). Silly mistakes can ruin your site’s credibility. I’ve used a tool called SpellScan.com in the past to keep mistakes off of my website.

    Hi There,

Just a heads-up that I believe the word “Varios” is spelled wrong on your website. I had a couple of errors on my site before I started using a service to monitor for them. There are a few sites that do this but we like SpellingReport.com and ErrorSearch.com.
