What’s the holdup for airline relief? ‘It’s mind-boggling,’ union leader says (forbes.com)

Leaders of the biggest airline union on Thursday [17 September 2020] urged Congress to approve continued financial support for airline workers so that tens of thousands don’t their jobs on Oct. 1 and their health care within months.

A second Payroll Support Program requested by the industry would provide $25 billion for passenger airlines, as well as $4 billion for cargo airlines and $3 billion for airline industry contractors, to pay employees through March 30, 2021. The CARES Act, approved in March, provided the same amount.

The PSP “is essential not only for airlines but for the survival of our economy, to make sure it doesn’t spiral down any further,” said Sito Pantoja, transportation general vice president for the International Association of Machinists.
