Video: TPP = Corporate Power Tool of the 1%

March 16, 2016

TPPThe following video spot has been produced by the Global Trade Watch (GTW) as part of its campaign to stop the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). GTW is a division of Public Citizen, the national, non-profit consumer advocacy organization founded in 1971. The Global Trade Watch division was created in 1995 to promote government and corporate accountability in the globalization and trade arena.

A particular concern regarding the TPP has been state secrecy and the governments, refusal to release the text of the agreement. Until very recently the TPP was known only to government leaders and corporate lobbyists. Investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) clauses inserted into trade deals permit companies to by-pass local courts to sue foreign governments in closed-door tribunals on the grounds that state measures and regulations hinder investment and business operations.
