United Airlines labor harmony starts to unravel as biggest union looks to sue over cutbacks (forbes.com)

Five years of labor-management harmony at United Airlines (UAL) could be dissipating as the carrier’s largest union says it is moving towards a suit charging that management illegally plans to furlough workers on May 24 after accepting a CARES Act grant that forbids furloughs before Oct. 1.

The International Association of Machinists, which represents about 28,000 United employees including fleet service workers and passenger service agents, said it has sought to negotiate voluntary measures to relieve United’s burden as passenger traffic plummets during the coronavirus crisis.
