Unite signs bumper pay deal with Ryanair (unitetheunion.org)

Unite, the UK and Ireland’s largest union, has secured an inflation busting pay deal for Ryanair cabin crew.

Senior cabin crew who are employed directly by Ryanair will see their pay rise dramatically, customer service supervisors (CSS) received a 9.5 per cent increase from September last year while junior CSS’ received an 11.01 per cent increase. Each group will receive further annual increases of around 2.9 per cent and 3.4 per cent on basic pay respectively for 2020, 2021 and 2022. This will amount to a total rise of 14.8 per cent or 17.8 per cent on the total pay package.

Pay increase

Main cabin crew (customer service agents – CSA) employed by employment agencies (Crewlink and Workforce) and who work on Ryanair flights will also receive a pay increase. The workers will receive an immediate uplift of between 0.6 per cent and 10.8 per cent depending on their length of service. The agency workers will then receive an increase of 5.3 per cent in base pay for 2020, 2021 and 2022. A total pay rise on average of 19.43 per cent.

There are now four incremental scales for CSAs which trigger an automatic increase each year. For new starters this will mean that they will receive an increase of £1,000 per annum.

Improved conditions

Workers’ conditions will also improve, including the transition to direct employment and guaranteed hours and protected days off.
Members voted by 79 per cent in favour of the deal among Ryanair directly employed staff and 98 per cent in favour among agency workers.

The pay deal is the first that Unite has conducted with Ryanair after securing recognition at the company 18 months ago.

Unite national officer for aviation Oliver Richardson said: “This pay deal, that has been overwhelmingly endorsed by members, means that pay at Ryanair is now comparable with other airlines, and strong progress has also been made on improving terms and conditions.

“Our members will see a real and immediate financial benefit from this pay deal which is heavily front loaded.

“The negotiations were conducted in a highly positive manner and were a real testimony to Unite’s reps involved all of whom are were new to the role.

“Unite will be looking to build on this agreement going forward as we continue to develop a strong working relationship with Ryanair.”
