Talks between ver.di and easyJet unsuccessful so far (Press release from ver.di)

July 8, 2011

Yesterday’s talks between Vereinte Dienstleistungsgewerkschaft (ver.di) and easyJet remained inconclusive – however, a new round is scheduled for Tuesday, 12 July. Therefore, as Holger Rößler, ver.di’s chief negotiator and local branch secretary for aviation, highlighted today, no industrial action will be taken up to and including Wednesday, 13 July.

“The outcome of the talks is still completely up in the air,” said Rößler. “Possible strike action continues to be on the cards, but we would like to await the next meeting with the airline as well as to give those who have already booked flights with easyJet some sort of planning security. They can be assured that no industrial action will go ahead until Wednesday inclusive.”

The ballot organized by Vereinte Dienstleistungsgewerkschaft (ver.di) among easyJet employees in Berlin-Schönefeld at the end of June resulted in a clear vote for industrial action: 94 per cent of all present eligible cabin crew members and 98 per cent of all present eligible pilots voted in favour of a strike. The current negotiations with the low-cost carrier have already been going on for the past ten months, without much commitment from the employer, though.

Ver.di demands a first-time collective agreement over pay for pilots and cabin crew. The last pay rise for easyJet employees dates back to 2008.

Around 240 cabin crew members and 110 pilots are employed by easyJet in Berlin-Schönefeld.
