Stop Aircrew Fatigue

At the EU Transport Minister’s meeting in Luxemburg on 16 June 2011, the ECA  (European Cockpit Association) organised a demonstration in front of the Council venue to raise awareness on the safety risks of fatigue. The ETF, represented by Elisabetta Chicca, Cabin Crew Committee Chair, and Francois Ballestero, ETF Political Secretary for Civil Aviation showed solidarity by taking part in this symbolic action.

For many years, ETF and ECA have been raising their concerns regarding the drafting process of new rules for Flight Time Limitations (FTL) for aircrew (pilots and cabin crew). The EU Institutions and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) have been asked to base such rules on scientific evidence.

On behalf of the Cabin Crew Committee, Elisabetta Chicca supported the request to use science-based EU rules to effectively combat safety risks, risks that put passengers in danger. She launched a call to the cabin crew community to organise a European campaign against aircrew fatigue.

François Ballestero concluded “It is time that the EU decision-makers wake up and solve this matter, which is too much subject to the influence of the airlines’ commercial interests.”
