Reminder to European aviation workers: Support Fair Transport Europe!

March 7, 2016

Fair_TransportA group of European citizens, transport workers and union members have launched a new European Citizens’ Initiative – Fair Transport Europe – which calls on the European Commission (EC) to propose measures for ensuring fair competition in transport and to guarantee equal treatment of workers.

The initiative, which was publicly launched on 28 September 2016, puts forward seven concrete proposals the EC can take to improve working conditions and secure fair competition for law-abiding businesses in the different transport sectors. For further information please visit the website of the campaign at https://www.fairtransporteurope.eu

The ETF – the ITF’s European arm – is supporting the initiative and the collection of signatures.

Campaigners say that fair transport is about fair working conditions and fair competition, as well as about safety for consumers and passengers. They argue that many of the 11 million transport workers in Europe are forced into deplorable working and living conditions because of insufficient or poorly implemented EU legislation or unfair business practices.

The Citizens’ Committee and its partners aim to collect at least one million signatures across Europe before 14 September 2016, as required by the European Commission.

If you are an EU citizen please take a moment to sign the petition on Fair Transport Europe.

And please share this with you friends, family and fellow union members.
