Raunchy Ryanair ads a no-no, says ASA
February 15, 2012
Budget airline Ryanair has been rapped by a watchdog for a sexist advertising campaign after thousands complained it objectified women and undermined cabin crew’s safety role. The adverts showed a series of scantily clad models in lingerie with the strapline “Red Hot Fares & Crew.”
ITF civil aviation secretary Gabriel Mocho is quoted by the Morning Star newspaper: “Sexist advertising undermines the vital safety role of cabin crew, potentially increases the chances of their being harassed and lowers their morale.
“Aviation unions are constantly battling against this belittling and sexualisation of their members – who could make a life or death difference.”
