Peru: Play fair LATAM – we don’t want to be afraid to fly with you

June 20, 2014

Two years ago, the largest Brazilian airline (TAM) merged with the Chile-based LAN to create LATAM — one of the most important airline businesses in Latin America. In 2012, it flew over 65 million passengers. It has 51,000 employees.

Today, with the eyes of the world focussed on Brazil, I want to draw your attention to a new campaign just launched called “Play Fair LATAM”.

The campaign, which is supported by the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF), is protesting the company’s treatment of its aviation mechanics in Peru and flight attendants in Argentina.

The former are asking for their first wage increase in a decade, and pay parity with their colleagues in other Latin American countries. The latter have been working without a contract for nine years.

Enough is enough. These business practices are not fair and they’re causing concerns about airline safety.

Tell LATAM that it’s time to play fair: Support the campaign!

Please spread the word about this campaign in your workplace and your union. Thanks very much!
