LAN Express (Chile) strike in its third week

April 22, 2015

Following a new wage offer from LAN Express (Chile) on 13 April, the airline’s maintenance, passenger service and cargo workers for the LATAM Airlines subsidiary remained on the strike.

The strike started on 8 April.

The Union of Lan Express Technician Workers/Federation of LAN Workers told the press that the company’s offer was slightly above its original 4 per cent offer, but far from the union’s 15 per cent demand. In addition, the offer would only apply to less than 70 per cent of the workforce.

Another meeting on 16 April failed to reach an agreement as well.

On 14 April, LATAM union leaders from Chile, Peru, Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil and Paraguay held a meeting in Santiago. They issued a statement that they were “unanimous in denouncing the anti-worker practices and the multiple conflicts with aviation workers throughout the region.” (See: Seventy-five union leaders meet in Santiago, Chile)
