ITF welcomes the new ICAO guidelines on digital learning for cabin crew training

March 4, 2020

The ITF welcomes the issuing of the new Guidelines on Digital Learning for Cabin Crew Training (Cir 356) by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

The document is officially published on ICAO-NET and available to all States and International Organizations in English. Other official languages will be available in the coming months.

In the Guidelines’ own words, “The purpose of this circular is to provide detailed guidance on designing, developing and using digital learning for cabin crew safety training. It also provides basic concepts and information on the processes and resources involved in digital learning development. These guidelines focus on formal learning, specifically on structured courses designed to meet job-related learning objectives. They do not address assessment needs or evaluation stages of a training programme but rather the design, development and delivery methods that are specific to digital learning.”

ITF civil aviation secretary Gabriel Mocho commented: “In 2014, the ICAO Cabin Crew Safety Training Manual was published as guidance for a competency-based approach to cabin crew safety training. The ITF has welcomed the manual along with many other manuals and guidance materials developed by the ICAO Cabin Safety Group with our input and colaboration.

“The new Guidelines will supplement the Crew Safety Training Manual as a tool to ensure that aviation remains as safe as it can be. It is also in line with the goals of the ICAO’s Next Generation of Aviation Professionals (NGAP) programme.”

“I thank all our aviation affiliates who strongly support the ITF ICAO Working Group and the ICAO Cabin Safety Group for their efforts.”
