ITF voices concerns over attack on union president

May 14, 2011

The ITF has urged the government of Yemen to act to protect a trade union leader there.

The call came after the Yemeni Aviation Engineers’ Syndicate alerted the ITF that its president’s house and car had been attacked just days after he appeared on television talking about corruption within Yemen Airways.

ITF general secretary David Cockroft said: “This is a nasty and cowardly attack that looks very much like it might be tied to the television appearance. We strongly urge the Yemeni authorities to investigate it and to provide the necessary protection for our colleague and his family, who are believed to be in continuing danger.”
