ITF unions act to help make history at Delta Air Lines

February 6, 2015

ITF unions around the world are showing their support for the campaign to unionise 21,000 flight attendants at US airline Delta.

The ITF-affiliated International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) filed for a vote on representation last month with support from 60 percent of the workforce. The voting period is expected to begin in the next 4-6 weeks.

Delta is the largest anti-union airline in the US and in the global aviation industry with only its pilots and a handful of flight dispatchers belonging to a union.

The IAM Delta campaign aims to encourage flight attendants to ‘vote yes’ to unionisation which will give them contracts and job security.

Support from the ITF family has so far been extensive with videos and pictures urging Delta flight attendants to vote yes appearing on social media and union websites.

ITF civil aviation section secretary Gabriel Mocho said: “We have a window of opportunity here to help make sure that it’s a resounding yes from Delta flight attendants when they vote on having a voice at work. This is a chance to make history and bring thousands of transport workers into the ITF family where they belong. If you haven’t already taken action in support of this campaign, now is the time!”

Go to the communications toolkit now to see what you can do to support the campaign and get your message out to flight attendants at Delta ahead of the vote.
