ITF mourns the tragic loss of Thorsten Wehe, IFATSEA President

February 17, 2022

Thorsten Wehe, IFATSEA president and a great friend of the ITF, passed away on 14 February 2022. Here, below we publish the condolences letter sent by Gabriel Mocho Rodriguez, ITF civil aviation secretary to Theodore Kiritsis, IFATSEA vice-president.

It is with deep sadness that we have learnt of the untimely death of Thorsten Wehe. Thorsten had been a great friend of the ITF and it was under his leadership that our organisations built a close working relationship, to forward the interests of ATSEP workers globally. His dedication to advancing the professionalism and interests of ATSEPs everywhere will be his greatest legacy. His commitment saw him cross political barriers for the members he represented.

Thorsten’s leadership, both in his union and as IFATSEA President, brought greater attention to the ATSEP profession – its challenges, problems and demands – both within and beyond the ATS world. We note that most recently his leadership resulted in the inclusion of IFATSEA in the ICAO Air Navigation Commission.

Thorsten was a man of social dialogue, representing balanced interests. He was recognised and respected across international organisations. It was a pleasure working with him. His death is a great loss to ATSEPs, air traffic services and aviation workers everywhere. He will be missed.

In solidarity,

Gabriel Mocho Rodriguez
Civil Aviation Secretary
