Hungary: Stop denying air traffic workers their right to strike

August 9, 2021

The right to strike is a basic human right. No government has the right to take that away from us.

And yet, that is what the Hungarian government, led by Victor Orban, is doing right now.

The air traffic workers at the Hungarian Air Navigation Service Provider are illegally being denied their fundamental right to strike.

On 26 July, using the COVID-19 pandemic as an excuse, the Hungarian government banned workers from striking on the basis of two decrees, disregarding a decision of the Hungarian Appeal Court from 20 July, which confirmed their legal right to strike.

The European Transport Workers Federation (ETF), the ITF’s European arm, has launched a campaign on LabourStart demanding that the Hungarian government respect the right to strike.

Please take a moment to show your support for this campaign — and please share it widely.
