Hava-Is members demand court order is acted on
July 25, 2013
Hava-Is members staged a protest on 23 July in front of Istanbul’s Caglayan Courthouse, to condemn the use of strike-breakers by Turkish Airlines (THY) management and inaction of the authorities despite a clear court verdict.
They asked for an immediate implementation of the court ruling, and chanted slogans like: “Long live our THY strike,” “Stop use of strike-breakers at THY,” “We are resisting; we will resist; we will win”.
Leaders of sister unions, including DISK general secretary Arzu Cerkezoglu, Kristal-Is president Bilal Cetintas, Tek Gida-Is president Mustafa Turkel, Tumtis general secretary Gurel Yilmaz and CHP Istanbul deputy Mahmut Tanal attended the demo.
Hava-Is president Atilay Aycin addressed the protestors. He said, “This is our final warning to the government and THY management. Abandon this attitude of denial of justice and law. Give workers a fair share from what they produce and start to restore badly tarnish labour-management relations.”
Demand an end to anti-union practice in Turkey. Send a letter of protest to the Turkish labour minister here.
