Air france cabin crew on strike (SNPNC-FO & UGICT-CGT France)

October 28, 2011

Following high political and economical decisions at European and national since years and the 2008 crisis, Air France management is proceeding to drastic reductions of employment for both ground staff and crew members.
Staff of Subsidiary companies (Regional, Britair, City-Jet…) of the group is also largely affected by employment cut due to heavy competition within the group.
It’s obvious that the European Directive on ground handling and the European Regulation EU-OPS 3922/91 has  contributed highly to this political management on human resources.
Consequently Air France management wants to reduce the number of cabin crew on board certain aircrafts (A319 and all long hauls aircrafts) ,  and threaten our present social rights through the creation of second scale collective agreement for Crew members, now operating from a new base (Marseilles).
This new collective agreement is based on EU-OPS FTL subpart Q that represents for us an important degradation of our working conditions as well as staff cut for French regional companies of Air France Group.
Also in order to reduce Cabin crew instructors, Air France management asks pursers and chief pursers to supervise and evaluate Cabin crew attendants on board.
Cabin crew Unions at Air France have been on negotiations since months to prevent from reduction of employment and degradation of their working conditions. In spite of a first strike threat last July, the Air France management has remained deaf to our requests and wants to take advantage of the new European regulation to impose it in a one-sided way without real social dialogue.
For these reasons, 6 out of 7 cabin crew Unions appeal for a strike from October the 29th till November the 2nd and ask for:
  • No reduction of cabin crew on board aircrafts
  • No degradation of our working conditions
  • AF must give up the cabin attendant evaluation by Pursers and chief Pursers
  • A real social dialogue.
