Worldwide support for the 305

July 18, 2012

Worldwide support is flooding in for the 305 Turkish Airlines workers recently sacked for protesting against a government strike ban, and for their union, the ITF affiliated Hava-Is.

The ITF has launched Reinstate the 305, a campaign to get the workers returned and the right to strike upheld, and support is coming in from across the union world. As well as the ITF’s actions, which include top level meetings with the Turkish government and diplomatic representatives, unions have raised the matter with embassy visits, protests and expressions of support. Meanwhile, Hava-Is is continuing to defend its members with a rolling programme of demonstrations and events, and their campaign has been picked up Turkish communities in countries such as the UK, where a demonstration was held in London on Saturday.

Europe is providing a particular focus, making the point that Turkey’s recent anti-trade union moves are incompatible with the nation’s European aspirations.

More details, background information, pictures of all these protests, and ideas on how to show support for the sacked Hava-Is members can be seen at www.reinstate305.org.
