The Industrial Court has rescinded last week’s decision by Kenya Airways to sack Aviation and Allied Workers Union boss Perpetua Mponjiwa. It further ruled that the dispute between the two parties be heard on February 14. In its dismissal letter, Kenya Airways accused the union’s chairlady of gross misconduct. “The company has therefore taken a decision to summarily dismiss you from employment with effect from 20thJanuary 2012,” says part of the dismissal letter sent to Mponjiwaand signed by head of human resources relationship Tom Shivo.

Unionen and the Swedish branch organisation for employers in civil aviation (Svenska FlygBranschen) have been negotiating since March 2010 towards a unified agreement regulating terms and conditions for all cabin crew based and operating in Sweden. The negotiations involve 10 current agreements regulating 18 different companies. The result is intended to unite all existing agreements into one single agreement.
Cabin crew and ground workers at the Spanish airline Iberia have called off planned strike action after they reached a new deal with their airline employer, which extends employment guarantees.
