ITF aviation unions get ready to participate in ILO GDF meeting

January 28, 2013

ITF aviation unions are gearing up for the International Labour Organization’s Global Dialogue Forum on the effects of the global economic crisis on the civil aviation industry, which is taking place in Geneva on 20-22 February 2013.

ITF affiliates in 24 countries have already signed up to attend what will be an important opportunity to discuss the problems aviation workers are facing in a fast-changing industry and to contribute to solutions.

Unions will join government officials and employer representatives from around the world at the forum.  Under discussion will be structural changes in the industry and the impact of low-cost carriers.

Gabriel Mocho, ITF civil aviation secretary, said: “Things are getting increasingly difficult for aviation workers as the economic crisis continues and airlines step up the pressure to cut costs.  The forum will give unions a vital chance to stand up for workers and make sure that their rights are considered in all future developments.”
