ITF calls for the cancellation of the ban on carrying electronic devices out of eight countries

April 18, 2017

The International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) calls on the US and the UK governments to cancel their decisions of putting restrictions on carrying electronic devices out of Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Tunis, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Qatar.

The ITF considers such decisions as discriminatory actions against passengers and airlines from certain countries without clear reasons related to safety and security, where in many of these countries, workers and the ITF affiliated unions will be harmed considerably.

IATA and many airport security consultants have also spoken against the prohibition calling them unacceptable and questioning their effectiveness.

We call for all our affiliates to condemn these decisions and do whatever they have in their capacity to put pressure on both governments to reconsider their decisions.

I feel this ban was purposeless and I sincerely hope it will be lifted.
